The vineyard was planted in 1986-89 and was originally known as Clapcot. It was taken over
by Bob and Carol Neilson in 1999 and renamed after the parish of Brightwell with Sotwell in which it lies.
Originally, it produced grapes for Chiltern Valley Vineyards.
In 2002, the first wine under the new label was produced- a Huxelrebe with a lovely 'pear drops' nose which was awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2002
UKVA Wine Challenge. Since then the vineyard has gone from strength to strength and has regularly gained awards at both the UKVA and Thames and Chilterns competition. All wines available by the case or bottle from the vineyard or from local delicatessens.
LocationTake the A329 north from the centre of Wallingford towards Shillingford Bridge. The vineyard is signposted on the right, just before you reach the bridge. |
