Denbies differs completely from other UK vineyards. The latter were planted, then sold wine, and, in some cases developed other facilities. Denbies was designed with the top-down concept of a theme park, based on wine. The facilites were developed with massive investment, and it was brilliantly marketed.

Denbies is big by English standards - a multi-million investment in the era when climate changes were hinted at, but scarcely believed in.History has proved them correct

It provides a major tourist centre just north and Dorking. Tourists can obtain a good meal and have a tour (by electric train) of the winery and cellars. The excellent restaurant serves wines by the glass. Well worth a visit if only to have lunch under the trees in the glass-roofed restaurant! In the buildings is housed the Surrey County Council collection on the composer Vaughan Williams, which is well worth a visit
