In 1992 2 brothers, a retired research chemist and an accountant, started planting vines on a Double Guyot training system at a rate of 300 a day. There are now 4 acres of flourishing vines producing an initial crop (in 1995) of 3000 bottles made in the custom-built winery.
In September 1996, the grapes were hanging beneath their 6 foot leaf canopy, carefully netted to keep off hungry birds, rabbits and foxes. The winery itself was hidden (at Council insistance) by Dornfelder grapes. The white grapes are all high quality German bred aromatics, and the wine was sold under the 'Canterbury Choice' label - is one to look out for
. Beside the drive is a bed of roses. The coal mines used to use canaries as an early warning device against methane. Barnsole uses roses as an early warning against blight and mildew ! The vineyard has now been taken over. Full details can be seen on the website
