Hop Kilns Vineyard

Hop Kilns Vineyard

Avenbury, near BROMYARD

Herefordshire

The Hop Kilns vineyard is a family run vineyard established in 2008. They grow “Solaris” grapes and produce a unique single grape variety wine. Development of a sparkling wine from Solaris is also being investigated. The vineyard is located in the tiny hamlet of Avenbury two miles south of the market town of Bromyard nestled in the Frome valley. The owners do not use sprays and pesticides of any kind at any time, and all planting, pruning and picking is done by the family (with a little help from our friends at harvest time)

Solaris is a hybrid grape variety with Seyve-villard, Riesling, Pinot gris, Zarya Severa and Muscat Ottonel in the genes. It produces wines which have fruity and perfumed aromas with hints of banana and hazelnuts, with medium acidity. It is considered to be suitable for dessert wines, as it ripens to high must weights. In cooler climate, with less sugar contents, also as a dry wine suitable for fish, shrimps or chicken.
