A Devon hillside in a picturesque triangle of land between Holsworthy, Okehampton and Hatherleigh is home to a well established vineyard that features mainly classic varieties of vines. In the valley below lies the village of Northlew, named after the nearby ancient manor of Lew, and featuring a 15th Century church. Its war memorial sadly records that 25% of all soldiers enlisting from the village in World War I, never returned.
The vineyard itself is at Lower Eastcott, 150 metres above sea level on a South-east facing slope, and with glimpses of Dartmoor. Three phases of planting have been completed, with over 6000 vines established. The Eastcott range includes "Methode Traditionelle" sparkling wines along with white and rose still wines. They have won International awards for both. Directions:See Google maps - follow the brown tourist signs from Northlew or follow the directions on the Eastcott Web site. |
