Pears baked in Red Wine

(Serves 4)

Ingredients:

Method:
  1. Place pears, cut side uppermost, in a casserole dish.
  2. Drizzle syrup over pears.
  3. Pour wine around pears.
  4. Add cinnamon stick, mace blades, cloves and orange rind to wine.
  5. Bake at 180°C/350°F/Mark 4 until the pears are cooked (15-20 mins.).
  6. Place pears in serving dish and keep hot.
  7. Concentrate the wine until it resembles a light syrup.
  8. Remove cinnamon stick, mace blades, cloves and orange rind and pour resulting syrup over pears.
  9. Serve warm.
