Pears baked in Red Wine
(Serves 4)
Ingredients:
- 6 pears, peeled, cut in half and de-cored.
- ¾ pint red wine.
- 3tbs syrup.
- cinnamon stick.
- 1tbs. mace blades.
- 3 cloves.
- rind of one orange.
Method:
- Place pears, cut side uppermost, in a casserole dish.
- Drizzle syrup over pears.
- Pour wine around pears.
- Add cinnamon stick, mace blades, cloves and orange rind to wine.
- Bake at 180°C/350°F/Mark 4 until the pears are cooked (15-20 mins.).
- Place pears in serving dish and keep hot.
- Concentrate the wine until it resembles a light syrup.
- Remove cinnamon stick, mace blades, cloves and orange rind and pour resulting syrup over pears.
- Serve warm.
