Island Vineyards

The islands of the English Channel provide a mild, if breezy environment for viticulture. Currently, 3 have vineyards.

Scillies

The long established vineyard on St.Martins has 0.6 Hectares of

    Jersey

    Les Burons is a small non-commercial vineyard on the east coast of the island.there is a steep SE facing slope planted with Rondo, Regent and Pinot noir Precoce in 2007.
    La Mare is a 5 acre vineyard planted with Seyval, Reichensteiner, Pinot Noir, Regent and Rondo. near St Mary. Full details can be found at the web site

    Sark

    The most recent development is on the tiny island of Sark, where the Barclay Brothers, the largest landowners on the island, have invested heavily in vines. Vines planted include:
  • Chardonnay
  • Gamay
  • Pinot Gris
  • Pinot Noir
  • Savagnin- a rare grape found mainly in the Savoie where it produces Vin Jaune.
    The initial harvest in 2011 was small, but the potential is seen at around 100Hl a year. To combat the high winds, over 5000 trees have been planted.
