Marden is situated 9 miles south of Maidstone in Kent and has a long history
dating back to the reign of Edward 1st.It thrived on the wool trade of the 18th Century.
Hops flourished in the area until imports forced the cessation of most of the production.
Now, with climate change, a new crop is appearing.
Marden Vineyard is planted on part of Peter Hall's surviving hop farm,
which supplies hops for Prince Charles' Duchy Original beer. Nicholas
Hall is planting 13500 classic vines and intends to release his first batch of
sparkling wine by 2011.
