Founded in 1204 by the Cistercian monks, Beaulieu
has a long tradition of vineyards. In 1836, the 2nd
Duke of Montagu replanted the vineyard on its
monastic site and produced brandy. In 1958 the
third age began, with Lt. Colonel Gore-Browne, one
of the pioneers of the modern industry , planting
a vineyard next to the abbey . He went into partnership with the
the Duke and In 1976, Montagu ventures took over the vineyard following
the death of Margaret Gore-Browne . The vineyard is about 50' a.s.l. on a heavy clay soil. |
