  • Founded in 1204 by the Cistercian monks, Beaulieu has a long tradition of vineyards. In 1836, the 2nd Duke of Montagu replanted the vineyard on its monastic site and produced brandy. In 1958 the third age began, with Lt. Colonel Gore-Browne, one of the pioneers of the modern industry , planting a vineyard next to the abbey . He went into partnership with the the Duke and In 1976, Montagu ventures took over the vineyard following the death of Margaret Gore-Browne .
The vineyard is about 50' a.s.l. on a heavy clay soil.
